Biopharmaceutics – Pharmacokinetics I

(Lectures: 4h/week, Assessment: final exam at the end of each term or September)

  • General concepts relevant to drug absorption, disposition, metabolism and excretion of drugs
  • Intravenous single dose administration - One compartment open model: iv bolus injection, iv infusion
  • Per os administration: Release of drugs from the dosage forms, delivery of drugs to and removal of drugs from the uptake sites, transport via the intestinal epithelium
  • Per os administration - One compartment open model: Zero and first order absorption kinetics
  • Protein binding, distribution of drugs in the body
  • Renal and hepatic elimination
  • Bioavailability - Bioequivalence
