Research topics

  • Phytochemical analysis of plants of the Greek, Mediterranean flora as well as plants from Mongolia.

  • Synthesis of natural products derivatives (flavonoids, benzofurans, anthracyclines, chalcones, diarylpropanes, stilbenes)

  • Biological evaluation of natural products and semi-synthetic derivatives for their antioxidant, bleaching and antiaging properties.

  • Exploitation of bioactive natural products as pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals.

  • Applications of 1D and 2D NMR, HPLC, MPLC, CC and LC-MS in Natural Products Chemistry.

  • Recording and assessing information of folk medicine


  • 1996: Award for graduate studies in “Pharmacognosy of biologically active natural products”. Source: State Scholarships Foundation.

  • 2000: Awarded the “Best Performance” prize for M.Sc. studentship by the Hellenic society of the Pharmaceutical Industry.
