COOPERATION OF THE FACULTY OF LAW OF THE NKUA WITH THE EUROPEAN UNION INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE AND THE EUROPEAN PATENT OFFICE

In July 2020, the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (E.U.I.P.O.) and the European Patent Office (E.P.O.), whereby the Faculty of Law was admitted to the “Pan European Seal Professional Traineeship Programme” administered by the EUIPO and EPO.

This programme enables selected postgraduate students of the Faculty of Law to place candidacies with the EUIPO and/or the EPO for a one year remunerated traineeship. Usually, a successful completion of traineeship may signal the beginning of a career with the EUIPO and EPO.

The “Pan European Seal Professional Traineeship Programme” was initiated by the EUIPO and EPO in 2015. Currently, there are about 90 European universities, engaging several faculties and scientific fields, participating to the programme, including some of the most reputable European universities, like Sorbonne, Cambridge, Munich, etc.

In addition to traineeship opportunities, the EUIPO and EPO are also offering to students on line access to educational and other study materials and on line courses in various aspects of intellectual property. The programme also includes various initiatives and actions, aiming at the promotion and dissemination of knowledge about intellectual property.

In March 2021, the Faculty of Law submitted for the first time a list of selected postgraduate students as candidates for traineeship with the EUIPO and EPO and this cooperation was put into practice.
