Teachers

Tsotinis Andrew Professor, Lougiakis Nikolaos Ass. Professor

Topics

The first part of the course is dedicated to the basic principles of Organic Chemistry including:

  • Nomenclature, bonding, electronegativity, tautomerism, inductive and resonance effects and aromaticity.
  • Aspects of stereochemistry, structure and stability of carbocation, carbanion, free radicals and carbenes are discussed.
  • Introduction to spectroscopic methods (IR, UV-VIS, NMR).

The second part includes the systematic study of synthesis and chemical properties of:

  • Saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons.
  • Alkylhalides.
  • Alcohols.
  • Ethers.
  • Carbonylic and organomettalic compounds.
