Tο Πρόγραμμα Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών (ΠΜΣ) «Αγγλική Γλώσσα, Γλωσσολογία και Μετάφραση» του Τμήματος Αγγλικής Γλώσσας και Φιλολογίας, σε συνεργασία με το Διατμηματικό Πρόγραμμα Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών (ΔΠΜΣ) «Μετάφραση: Ελληνική, Αγγλική, Ρωσική», διοργανώνει τη σειρά διαλέξεων «Σεμινάρια του ΠΜΣ/ΔΠΜΣ» σχετικά με θεματικές που αφορούν τη γλώσσα, τη γλωσσολογία και τη μετάφραση.

“Relational work and interpersonal pragmatics in translation: Key themes and challenges”
Abstract
What happens to the pragmatics level of language – the meaning of words dependent on their context and the interlocutors’ shared background knowledge – in translation? Translating pragmatics phenomena is not always straightforward. It merits linguistic study to describe the transformations that happen in different modes and participant constellations. In this talk, I will outline the narrow definition of translation, which involves interlingual translation only, and a broader, inclusive definition, that also takes into account semiotic changes such as translation of cooking actions into recipes. I will discuss the six main areas of research interests that such a broader definition of translation brings to the fore in pragmatics of translation, and illustrate them through case studies. Finally, I will present the future directions in the research of pragmatics in translation, and propose some research questions and the types of data that can be used to address
these.
