Teaching

Undergraduate courses/labs 

  • Co-teaching of the compulsory course "Pharmaceutical Technology I" to the students of the 5th semester of the undergraduate programme of the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Athens (1994-present).
  • Co-teaching of the elective course "Modern Pharmaceutical Systems" to the students of the 8th semester of the undergraduate programme of the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Athens (2015-present).
  • Participation in the laboratory practicals of the course "Pharmaceutical Technology" (1994 - today, as a faculty member).
  • Supervision of the laboratory practicals of the undergraduate students of the School of Pharmacy, University of Rhode Island (U.R.I., U.S.A.) (1989).

  • Co-teaching of the compulsory course "Physical Pharmacy" (Module: Industrial Pharmacy (1994 - today)).

Research interests

  • Formulation and in vitro release studies of bioactive substances from topical formulations.
  • Controlling the efficacy and safety of formulations in skin disease therapies.
  • Modified release studies on novel pyrrolinoquinoline derivatives, with cytotoxic activity, from solid formulations.
  • Physicochemical properties of new excipients (Ulvans) and their application in the manufacture of solid pharmaceutical formulations, and of nanoparticulate substrates as active substance carriers for the study of their release.
  • Design and preparation of pharmaceutical formulations of bioactive compounds of diverse structure, via 3D-printing technology.
  • Application of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, in predicting the release profile of bioactive substances from solid pharmaceutical formulations.

Distinctions

  • Designated Postgraduate Scholarship (Ε.Μ.Υ.) awarded by the Division of Pharmaceutical Technology (NKUoA).
