Research topics

• Study of volatile metabolites of aromatic plants in different vegetative stages in order to clarify their chemical profiles and to detect the conditions and factors affecting the concentrations of bioactive metabolites. 
• Chemotaxonomic study of taxa of uncertain taxonomic position. Investigation of geographic and/or seasonal variation, inter- and intrapopulation variability and identification of diagnostic biomarkers. 
• Phytochemical analysis mainly of Mediterranean endemic plants for the detection-isolation-structure elucidation of bioactive metabolites.
• Investigation of the allelopathic potential of natural products. Evaluation of their activity as insect repellents or insecticidals. Assessment of the antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant activity of natural products.
